Estate Administration

Losing someone is never easy. On top of grief, there are often complex legal, financial, and tax matters to manage. That’s where we come in.

At Convey Us Legal, we offer sensitive and efficient estate administration services to help you settle a loved one’s affairs with confidence. Whether the estate is simple or more involved, we guide you through every legal step — from applying for probate to distributing assets and finalising tax matters.

What Is Estate Administration?

Estate administration is the legal process of dealing with someone’s property, money, debts, and personal belongings after they pass away.

This usually involves:

  • Gathering information on assets and liabilities
  • Applying for a Grant of Probate (or Letters of Administration if no Will exists)
  • Paying debts and Inheritance Tax (if applicable)
  • Distributing the estate according to the Will or intestacy rules
  • Preparing final estate accounts

Do I Need a Solicitor?

Administering an estate can be legally complex and emotionally overwhelming. Appointing a solicitor ensures:

  • The Will (if there is one) is correctly interpreted
  • Tax is accurately calculated and paid
  • Executors are protected from personal liability
  • Beneficiaries receive what they’re legally entitled to
  • The process is handled promptly and with care

Our Estate Administration Services

We offer fixed-fee or full-support packages depending on your needs. These may include:

  • Reviewing the Will and confirming executors
  • Valuing assets and debts
  • Preparing the probate application
  • Completing Inheritance Tax (IHT) forms
  • Collecting and distributing assets
  • Final estate accounts and closure

We can also advise where there is no Will, where the estate is intestate, or where disputes arise.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need probate for all estates?

No. Smaller estates or jointly held property may not require probate. We’ll help you determine what’s needed.

What if there is no will?

If there is no valid will, the estate is distributed according to the rules of intestacy. We can help the rightful beneficiaries apply for Letters of Administration and ensure the estate is managed correctly.

How long does estate administration take?

Simple estates may be completed in 3–6 months. More complex ones (e.g. with property or international assets) can take 6–12 months or longer.

Can I be held responsible as an executor?

Yes. That’s why it’s wise to seek legal advice — errors in distribution or tax payments can result in personal liability.

Do you offer fixed fees?

Yes. We provide clear, fixed-fee options for both probate-only and full estate administration support.
